Mathieu Hergett-Rozier

Articling Student

Mathieu is one of our articling students for the 2025-2026 term, working primarily with the in the Commercial Litigation group. During his previous summer with Sotos, Mathieu assisted our lawyers with a broad range of matters, including franchise recissions, personal injury claims, employment disputes, and class action claims.

Mathieu’s involvement in legal advocacy began before law school during his time at the Halifax Refugee Clinic, where he served as a volunteer case researcher. During law school, Mathieu participated in the Osgoode Investor Protection Clinic’s clinical program, where he assisted individuals unable to afford legal services achieve justice for investment harms they had suffered. There he gained invaluable experience in civil litigation and developed a thorough understanding of Canada’s complex financial regulatory system.

Mathieu’s passion for the law emerged from his fascination with language and philosophy, which he studied while completing his undergraduate degree at McGill University.

I strongly believe in the importance of justice, integrity, and service to community. I believe business owners are builders who serve as cornerstones of our communities and I am dedicated to excellence in advocacy. I look forward to assisting our clients navigate the complexities of the ever changing legal landscape.

In my free time, I enjoy climbing, reading, and blacksmithing. When time permits, I seize the opportunity to reconnect with nature through hiking, foraging, and mountaineering.

Professional Associations
  • Worked as a student caseworker at the Osgoode Investor Protection Clinic, assisting investors who cannot afford a lawyer to seek justice for harms done to them. Dealt with a lot of investment fraud and misconduct while there.
  • Served as Co-president on the Osgoode Charity Law Association, raising awareness of the field of charity law, running charitable community initiatives such as food drives.
