Sotos Student Program

We hire 2-3 summer students through the Law Society of Ontario OCI process. We do not typically have a separate articling hiring process because we are focused on investing in the students who join us for the summer. Our program is built on a simple, powerful philosophy: we hire our summer students with the intention of inviting them back to article and grow with us as future associates.

Why Sotos LLP?

Sotos LLP is a full-service boutique law firm. Our lawyers are ranked among the highest of their peers in Canada. When you join us, you will be working alongside a team recognized for its excellence, including seventeen nationally ranked lawyers and seven recognized practice areas.

Our summer students will have the opportunity to work with national and international clients across multiple practice areas and industries. As a full-service firm, our practice is broad and extensive. Explore the full range of our services here.

The Student Experience: Real Work. Real Support.

Our goal is to train you to become a well-rounded and thoughtful lawyer. Instead of a formal rotation process, you will be assigned work based on need and availability. This dynamic approach ensures you receive a varied work experience and a realistic view of life at a busy firm.

Over the course of the summer term, students gain exposure to all three core practice areas: Business Law, Litigation, and Intellectual Property, with the goal of building a strong foundation that prepares them for their articling term.

Mentorship

Students are assigned two mentors: a partner/senior associate, and a junior associate. Students meet with their senior mentor regularly to understand the nature of the work that has been assigned, to share feedback on their summer/articling experience, and to receive individual guidance and mentoring. Students can call on their junior mentor for any questions about the student experience, or anything else they would like to discuss.

Firm Resources

Office & Technology

Our offices are at 55 University Avenue, Toronto, Suite 600. Our summer students have a designated shared office, giving you a stable home base.

You will be equipped with a firm laptop, a docking station, and a two-monitor setup. We embrace technology and provide access to leading-edge tools, including e-discovery platforms and legal AI.

While we offer flexibility, in our experience, the summer experience is maximized if students are in the office more frequently.

We have in-firm CPD training on topics as diverse as marketing and public speaking.

We will also pay for you to attend external CLE programs like the OBA/Advocates' Society, etc.
