Oleyna Strigul
Associate
Oleyna is a litigation associate whose practice focuses on intellectual property and commercial disputes, including franchising, licensing, and distribution matters across both federal and provincial jurisdictions in Canada. She advises clients on trademark disputes, patent litigation, licensing, intellectual property enforcement, patent validity, and infringement opinions, as well as matters relating to Canadian market entry and product commercialization.
Oleyna’s background in both science and litigation allows her to navigate disputes involving complex technologies, regulatory frameworks, and cross-border issues. She assists clients in technically sophisticated and highly regulated industries, including life sciences, technology, health and wellness, and energy-related sectors.
Prior to joining Sotos, Oleyna’s practice concentrated on complex pharmaceutical and biotechnology patent disputes before the Federal Court, Federal Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court of Canada.
Oleyna obtained her J.D. degree from Queen’s University in 2021, where she acted as a student caseworker at the Queen’s Business Law Clinic and coached the Queen’s Law team for the Harold G Fox Moot in Intellectual Property. Prior to attending law school, Oleyna attended McMaster University and graduated summa cum laude with an Honours B.Sc, with distinction, in Life Science (Origins Research Specialization). Oleyna also completed her M.Sc. in Medical Sciences at McMaster University, specializing in immunology and allergic disease. She was recognized with the Outstanding Achievement Award for her graduate research on cord blood dendritic cell populations in atopic-at-risk and not-at-risk infants.
Oleyna is fluent in Ukrainian and Russian.
