Practice Focus

Allan is a partner in the litigation department. His practice focuses on franchising, licensing and distribution, commercial and corporate disputes, and intellectual property. Allan regularly advises franchisors, master franchisees, and area franchisees and has been recognized by Chambers Canada, Best Lawyers Canada and LEXPERT directories as a leading litigator in the franchising field. He has represented both franchisors and franchisees in group litigation including class proceedings.

Allan has an extensive background in trial and appellate litigation and has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada. He also has comprehensive experience arbitrating and mediating disputes. He is a member of the Canadian Franchise Association, ABA Forum on Franchising, International Franchise Association and the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada. Additionally, Allan has been a regular contributing author of articles and a speaker on topics related to franchising, commercial leasing, and general litigation on behalf of the Ontario Bar Association, the Canadian Franchise Association, and the American Bar Association Franchise Law Journal. He is an original member of the executive of the Ontario Bar Association Joint Sub-Committee on Franchising, a past chair of the Ontario Bar Association Franchise Law Section, and co-chaired the Ontario Bar Association 7th Annual Franchise Law Conference in 2007.
