Franchise
Expertise
Specializes in domestic and international franchise, licensing and distribution law with a large national and international client base. Represents franchisors in connection with franchise transactions, workouts, defaults, purchases and sales of franchise networks, master franchising and creditor and debtor rights on both franchisor and franchisee insolvencies. Extensive experience in all aspects of trade and co-operative associations.
Organizations
Member of the Canadian and International Franchise Associations, and the Ontario, American and International Bar Associations. Special Counsel to a number of national and international franchisors and Director of numerous companies and not-for-profit organizations. Appointed Co-chair of the Uniform Law Conference of Canada Franchising Project by the Federal and Provincial governments with a mandate to develop uniform franchise legislation across Canada. Appointed to the Franchise Working Sector Team by the Ontario Minister of Consumer and Commercial Relations to provide ongoing advice on franchise industry regulation. Ongoing work to assist developing countries in the adoption of franchising as a vehicle for economic expansion.
Seminars and Publications
Regularly contributes to industry and professional publications. And is a presenter at national and international franchise and business law conferences held by the Canadian Bar Association, Law Society of Upper Canada, The Canadian Institute, Canadian Franchise Association, International Franchise Association, the World Bank, Insight and various foreign franchise associations..
